Apple IIgs: Last major Apple II
1986Apple launched the Apple IIgs, the last significant release in the Apple II line of personal computers, on September 15, 1986. The IIgs boasted many advanced features, including a 16-bit microprocessor, a sophisticated sound synthesizer, and 256-color graphics capabilities. It also had a graphical user interface, a significant step forward for the series. Despite the IIgs's excellent performance and backward compatibility with Apple II software, it was ultimately phased out, giving way to Apple's Macintosh line. Nevertheless, the IIgs holds a place in computer history as one of the last significant products in the Apple II series and an important bridge between the Apple II and Macintosh lines.

1947The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) was founded in New York City, on September 15, 1947 making it the world's first scientific and educational computing society. ACM's mission is to advance the art, science, engineering, and application of information technology, and to promote the free exchange of ideas among professionals in the field. The ACM has grown into a leading professional organization for computer science researchers, practitioners, and educators, with over 100,000 members worldwide. The ACM also sponsors numerous conferences, journals, and publications and has recognized numerous luminaries in computing, including the Turing Award, widely considered the "Nobel Prize of Computing.
Google.com Domain Name Registered
1997On September 15, 1997, the domain name "google.com" was registered by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two graduate students at Stanford University. The domain name was intended to be a play on the word "googol," which refers to the number 1 followed by 100 zeros, and reflected the founders' goal of organizing the vast amount of information on the internet. Google started out as a research project, but quickly gained popularity for its simple and effective search engine. Today, Google is one of the most valuable companies in the world, offering a wide range of services including search, email, maps, and cloud storage, among others.
