Apple IIgs: Last major Apple II

Apple launched the Apple IIgs, the last significant release in the Apple II line of personal computers, on September 15, 1986. The IIgs boasted many advanced features, including a 16-bit microprocessor, a sophisticated sound synthesizer, and 256-color graphics capabilities. It also had a graphical user interface, a significant step forward for the series. Despite the IIgs's excellent performance and backward compatibility with Apple II software, it was ultimately phased out, giving way to Apple's Macintosh line. Nevertheless, the IIgs holds a place in computer history as one of the last significant products in the Apple II series and an important bridge between the Apple II and Macintosh lines.
