The Power of Obligation in the Age of AI

Interesting perspective. 

I guess reinforcement learning is a bit like negative feedback - it will be interesting to see if that manifests within AI a form of regret similar to our social and emotional responses to regret.

I do believe that AI’s can be instilled with a sense of emotion, but its still superficial and mechanical.

How does differentiate an emotional drive from simply setting an AI an objective and approach for carrying out that objective.

Though one could argue how that may be different for humans.

A need for caution makes sense.

As you point out, all this illustrates much more strongly a considerable gap in our ability to understand and engage with complex human emotion and for me reinforces the importance of embracing our obligations and nurturing our distinctly human qualities.

It's fascinating to consider how the experience of action, particularly the belief that we could have done otherwise, contributes to our sense of obligation and responsibility.

For me, this further supports the notion that embracing our obligations can help us connect with what makes us uniquely human and forge meaningful connections in the world.

I had not given too much thought to the idea of regret in integrating group norms and its impact on individual ones. Honouring our obligations through fear of regret may be a very pwoerful tool for influencing our biological, psychological, and social presence.

This seems like something very hard for machines to meaningfully emulate and may end up being one of the major blockers to making something like general intelligence.
